“Russia continues the legacy of the USSR,” Vladyslav Havrylov stated during a lecture to students at Umeå University. Our researcher provided an in-depth presentation on the history of Russia’s deportations and the evolution of these policies into their current form.
“Historical records clearly show that the Russian government has a long-standing practice of mass deportations, mirroring the Soviet era,” Vladyslav explained.
"During the USSR, decrees sanctioned the forced removal of entire ethnic groups, including Ukrainians, Germans, Koreans, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, and Poles, relocating them from their homelands to harsh camps in Siberia and Northern Kazakhstan. Today, Russian occupying forces continue this disturbing legacy, forcibly displacing Ukrainians from occupied territories to designated 'placement points' within the Russian Federation, even to remote regions like the Far East."
Analyzing Russia’s policy of forcible deportation is critical to dismantling biased narratives and exposing propaganda. While academia often considers itself resistant to such influences, it is, in fact, particularly vulnerable. Lectures like those given by Vladyslav Havrylov are essential for countering Russian propaganda and promoting a more objective and nuanced perspective, contributing to the decolonization of knowledge.
