The public organization PR Army, in collaboration with the Ukraine 5 AM Coalition, the Charity Foundation "East SOS," Crimea SOS, ZMINA, and the Crimean Human Rights Group, has launched a social media initiative titled "Deportation Crimea: Drop in the Ocean" as part of the broader campaign Where Are Our People?.
This initiative seeks to spotlight the long-standing deportations from Crimea, orchestrated by the Russian Federation—not only over the last decade but dating back to the late 18th century.Since 2014, following the occupation of Crimea, Russian forces have systematically deported Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars to Russian territory.
After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Crimea has been used as a transit hub and temporary shelter for deported Ukrainians, particularly children, from territories under temporary occupation.
“Russians use deportation as a tool to impose authority, colonize territories, and suppress resistance,” explains Anastasiia Marushevska, co-founder of PR Army and coordinator of the Where Are Our People? campaign.
“De-occupying Crimea would strip the Kremlin of one of its key bases for these deportation policies. We urge everyone to share our message on social media to bring global attention to these crimes and hold the Russian Federation accountable.”
The social media campaign highlights the enduring resilience of Crimeans in the face of Russia’s aggression, from the 18th century to today. A central message of the campaign states, “Every voice matters in the fight for freedom and justice because I am a drop in the ocean.”
The organizers call for global participation in the Deportation Crimea: Drop in the Ocean initiative to intensify diplomatic efforts, enforce anti-Russian sanctions, and gain international recognition of Russia’s deportation practices. Building a united global coalition, they argue, will amplify Ukraine’s message, strengthen international solidarity, and pressure Russia to end its repressive policies in Crimea.
